Sunday at California Speedway

The "Midway" at California Speedway on Sunday morning at about 9:00am, three hours till race time. At noon on Sunday the population in this little part of the world blossomed to 165,00 people!

Snow-Capped Mountains

The weather in Southern California this last weekend was unpredictable... but the views were spectacular. This shot is looking north from the Speedway in Fontana.

My Brother... Maybe the Best Reason for Getting to the Track

One of the best parts of working at California Speedway is that my brother, an RN in Boulder, CO, is an equally avid NASCAR fan and usually joins me for race weekends. As I grow older my brothers and sister have come to mean so much.

What a Weekend!

What a weekend! Four days, 45 hours driving and more than 300 miles behind the wheel of a golf cart for handicapped services, 165,000 fans, 3 NASCAR races, and more foolishness than you can imagine. As always; What an Experience!!

Addison Rockin' the Midwest

My son (face in napkin holder) and band (Addison) are on tour right now in the Midwest. The other gentleman in the photo is the superstar drummer, Ken.

Can You Hear the Train Coming?

If you put your ear right on the track... you get a dirty ear.

The Starbucks River, Orange County, California

It turns out the rivers in Orange County are filled with double latte mocha. My cup runneth over....

The Rainbow Ends Next to the Starbucks River

I FOUND IT! THE END OF THE RAINBOW! I FOUND IT! ...no gold...

Recommendation: Eat at Mom's

Olive Grill & Catering & Propane & Gas & Tuneups. And they say never eat at a place called Mom's... sheesh!

It's Raining Yet Again

In Southern California half your life is spent on a freeway. That must be why so many of my photos are taken from the drivers seat (pushing the rock - pushing the rock...).

oooh, pretty

It caught my eye; had camera handy...

The Lobby

I visited this office today... The interior design is remarkable.

Everybody Hurts...

I am sitting in the middle of the interchange on the 5 Freeway called the Orange Crush. I keep waiting for R.E.M. to jump out of a car and start singing Everbody Hurts.

In the No Zone

Apparently I am driving in the "No" zone.

Urban Fishing

There is a man-made lake nearby (actually more of a giant bowl with water in it) that is lined with fishermen/women/kids every weekend hunting the elusive farm-raised trout. Sometimes it is much more interesting to float off shore and watch them then to watch my line.

NASCAR Returns to SoCal... YES!!

Two weeks -- NASCAR returns to Southern California, and I'll be there working and taking pictures to chronicle the madness of 4 days in race fan city.

Accumulating Wealth

This is my current savings program.

A Quiet Fall Morning

I would like it if Southern California had seasons. This was taken in central Pennsylvania in late October.

Road Trip

This looks so "America". It feels like adventure, hope, and dreams all wrapped in one.

More Attention to Detail

Back to the detail. This gutter grate appears to be 100 years old (in a place that has only existed for a few years). Somebody at Disney REALLY pays attention to things that would not even occur to about 99% of the rest of us.

Attention to Detail

Downtown Disney. So much attention to design detail. This doorway to a silver shop is designed to stand out dramatically and yet closer inspection reveals that it simply a extension of the design from the original building facade.

About to Rain on Disney

I took this photo and a few minutes later it started to sprinkle. Disney's going to sell a lot of Mickey Mouse rain parkas today.... (BTW, I had my rainjacket with me)

View from My Window 021005

A chilly and dreary day. Last night the two trailers on the left pulled in with a lot of commotion and kids running about. I could feel the buzz of their excitement at being only hours away from skipping over to Disneyland.

View from My Window 020905

Life in a tidy little tourist oasis means waking up each day with new neighbors. The parade of trailers and RVs is endless, drawn by the call of the Magic Kingdom only five blocks away. The gentleman next to his RV in this picture will spend the next several minutes checking utility connections, pulling out lawn furniture, and turning his piece of asphalt into "home".

Blue Marble and Water

Watching water fall is always better than a lava lamp.

Cool Water and Tile

On a warm day this pool is so alluring. The texture of water, ripples and tile look so crisp and cooling.

It Rains in SoCal?

Welcome to Southern California. If you are the owner of a large ark, license plate number FIND-D8; You have left your lights on in the parking lot.

Door of Mystery

On a narrow block in the heart of SOHO these ancient looking iron doors where locked. Where do they go and what piece of the past do they bar entry to? Do these doors keep us out or keep something in?

The Beauty of Deschutes

Deschutes River, Oregon. At every bend this river reveals a little bit more to take my breath away.

Art Becomes Art

On a street corner in SOHO art becomes art. Six flights in a high- dollar flat the art comes indoors.

Signs of Trout on the Deschutes

Deschutes, Oregon:: The deep water beneath the boat swells before churning into a shallow section of ripples. With fly rod in hand this scene promises of strong trout holding behind rocks waiting for food.
